Gordon Lewis began singing in church at an early age and developed an interest in playing the guitar after his father gave him a Beach Boys cassette. His interest in music persisted and he began playing the saxophone in fifth grade. Inspired by players such as Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, Gordon began taking guitar lessons at age twelve. In addition to guitar, he also began taking instruction in piano and taught himself other instruments as well. He had the opportunity to attend high school at the Perpich Center for the Arts in Golden Valley, Minnesota, where he studied many aspects of music theory and instrumental technique and performance. During this time he also had the opportunity to study guitar at the acclaimed MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis Minnesota.
After high school, Gordon earned a music degree from Mesabi Range College in Minnesota and went on to study music at Evangel University and Missouri State University. Throughout his college years he was already working full-time as a musician and became a sought after instructor on guitar and other instruments.
Gordon moved to Colorado Springs in 2011 and has been very active as a professional musician and instructor. He tours nationally with the bohemian folk duo Roma Ransom that also includes virtuoso violinist Grace Easley. This group performs an eclectic blend of original music and gives Gordon a chance to display his talents on guitar and many other instruments. Roma Ransom is one of the busiest musical groups based in Colorado Springs and can be seen locally at many different venues.
The Colorado Springs Guitar Studio is very happy to have Gordon as an instructor on our teaching roster. He brings a thorough knowledge of a wide variety of guitar styles and techniques, and also offers instruction in flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones, banjo, and mandolin.
